Kobra Drive VS external encrypted HDD / SSD with German VS-NfD approval

KOBRA Drive VS is a state-of-the-art external encrypted storage device. The product enables the GDPR- and BDSG-compliant storage, retention and secure transport of sensitive, personal and confidential data up to the classification level VS-NfD (classified information - FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY), RESTREINT UE/EU RESTRICTED and NATO RESTRICTED for authorities and companies.

In addition to DIGITTRADE smartcards, existing PKI-based company ID-, Service- and Troop ID Cards can be used for authentication. In terms of confidentiality, all data stored on the Kobra VS storage devices is protected against unauthorized access in case of loss or theft of the device.

The confidentiality of the data is assured by the following security mechanisms:

Encryption:
256-bit AES full-disk hardware encryption in XTS mode using two 256-bit crypto keys

Access Control:
Two-factor authentication via smartcard and PIN according to the principle "having and knowing"

Cryptographic Keys Management:
Administration of the cryptographic keys by the Users: Create, Modify and Destroy

User administration:
Using the Kobra VS Client management software, the administrator can add, manage or delete one or more users at the same time.

Security mechanisms and special features:

User management by the administrator

The administrator can integrate and delete users, set read and write permissions, manage time-out and lock-out functions, and manage the number of failed attempts for PIN entries. In addition, the administrator functions can be locked for the users.

Existing PKI smartcards can be integrated

In addition to DIGITTRADE smartcards, existing PKI-based company ID-, Service- and Troop ID smartcards can be used for authentication. In terms of confidentiality, all data stored on the KOBRA VS storage device is protected against unauthorized access in case of loss or theft of the device.

GDPR compliant

Sensitive, classified and personal data and information can be stored in full compliance to the GDPR.

Transparent use

Hardware encryption means that all data is automatically and immediately stored in encrypted form without any loss of performance.

Independent of the operating systems

• All security features are fully implemented in the Kobra VS storage devices, so they work with all known operating systems and multimedia devices.
• Kobra VS storage devices are bootable and can be used for the simultaneous storage of an operating systems and of sensitive, classified data

Management software for Kobra VS storage devices

• Enables the administrator to configure the Kobra VS storage devices of each individual user quickly and in a task-oriented manner.
• Saving the configurations made as presets for specific application scenarios
• Administrator can read out serial number and public key directly from the DIGITTRADE smartcard (PKI card) inserted in the Kobra VS storage device.
• He can also take this information from the smartcard table of the Kobra VS storage device.
• In this case, he can also find out whether the respective smartcard owner is only authorised to read or also to write on the Kobra VS storage device.
• Enables the administrator to allocate access rights, through the smartcards, to individualusers, for instance User 1 is able to read and write, User 2 gets a Read-Onlyaccess

Storage device (HDD/SSD)

The built-in SATA hard drive in 2.5" format makes mobile data secure, small and handy. Data transfer and power supply via USB-C as well as hardware encryption allow the storage medium to be used independently of the operating system.

Supported operating systems

The Kobra VS storage devices are independent of operating systems and bootable. This means that not only data, but also operating systems and programmes can be stored on this storage device. This means that the Kobra VS storage devices can be used on all devices with USB support.
